Cover Story: The Complete Geophysical Survey of the Valley of the Kings (Luxor, Egypt) is a collaborative project, by the Polytechnic U. of Turin, aiming to achieve a very large-scale 3D map of the Eastern valley and to explore potentialities of using non-invasive geophysical techniques in the search for archaeological remains. The geomatics team employed innovative 3D metric technologies, based on terrestrial laser scanning (static and mobile) and close-range photogrammetry. The geophysical campaign focused on the acquisition of electrical resistivity tomography (ERT), ground-penetrating radar (GPR), and high-spatial-density geomagnetic (GM) data, that evidenced interesting anomalies related to unknown underground structures. The integration of 2D/3D data concerning visible elements and hypothetical anomalies and the geo-referencing of the Theban Mapping Project prefigure an effective multi-temporal site representation.View this paper.
