Cover Story: Cryptocurrencies have become a global phenomenon and are known to most people as a disruptive technology and a new investment vehicle. However, due to their decentralized nature, the regulation of these markets has presented regulators with difficulties in finding a balance between nurturing innovation and protecting consumers. Therefore, the investigation of the behaviour of crypto assets and transaction networks is an important research topic. In this work, we analyze the ledgers of popular blockchain networks and test their conformity to Benford's law. The aim is to test the applicability of this well-established method to a new domain, in this case, the identification of anomalous behaviour. View this paper
