Cover Story: The rapid expansion of massive Machine-Type Communications (mMTC) poses a significant challenge for 5G networks: how to allocate limited radio resources efficiently among thousands of heterogeneous IoT devices. This issue features a study on a bi-objective optimization framework designed for dynamic resource scheduling within 5G network slicing. By leveraging the Non-dominated Sorting Genetic Algorithm II (NSGA-II), the proposed approach identifies the optimal trade-off between minimizing operational costs and maximizing Quality-of-Service (QoS). Incorporating domain-specific constraints such as device priority, battery capacity, and slice isolation, the framework ensures scalable and sustainable connectivity for dense IoT deployments. This research provides a robust pathway for network operators to manage the complexity of future 5G and B5G ecosystems. View this paper
