Cover Story: This paper presents a vision system for a UR5 cobot using a webcam and Python-based control for automated object sorting from 2D images. The system detects, classifies, and locates objects based on shape, using OpenCV, NumPy, and scikit-learn with an MLP classifier. Calibration included lens distortion correction, hand-in-eye setup, and virtual plane definition for 3D position estimation. Identification methods involved Hu moment contour similarity, SIFT with FLANN, and MLP-based neural networks. Performance was evaluated using accuracy, precision, sensitivity, specificity, and F1-score, with MLP outperforming classical methods in all metrics. The approach aligns with Industry 4.0, enabling efficient, flexible vision systems using accessible tools without requiring deep expertise in computer vision or machine learning. View this paper
