Cover Story: Early diagnosis of HIV remains essential for accelerating treatment initiation and reducing onward transmission. In this multicenter study, we evaluated the analytical and clinical performance of the new VIDAS® HIV DUO AG/AB fourth-generation assay. The assay demonstrated enhanced p24 antigen sensitivity, detecting HIV infection earlier than the previous-generation assay in more than 30% of seroconversion panels, while maintaining excellent specificity (99.95%) and complete detection of all HIV-positive clinical samples tested. Broad inclusivity across diverse HIV-1 and HIV-2 variants and the absence of cross-reactivity further support its robustness. By shortening the diagnostic window and increasing confidence in screening results, the VIDAS® HIV DUO AG/AB assay represents a valuable advance for early HIV diagnosis in a wide range of clinical and epidemiological settings. View this paper
