Cover Story: Despite being the most deadly gynecological cancer, there has been little improvement in the clinical management of ovarian cancer over the last two decades. Tumor molecular analyses have identified important alterations involved in ovarian carcinogenesis, but this development has not modified the outcomes of most patients. Moreover, invasive procedures required for tumor sampling are not easy to use for clinical purposes. In recent years, circulating tumor biomarkers (“liquid biopsies”) have been massively explored. In this issue of Cancers, we describe the methods of analysis and results related to liquid biopsies related to ovarian cancer screening and early diagnosis, prognosis evaluation, prediction of response to systemic therapies, and monitoring of residual subclinical disease. We also detail why their use has not yet been validated in routine practice. View this paper
