Cover Story: Most clinical practice guidelines recommend shared decision making on PSA screening for prostate cancer, following a discussion of its benefits and disadvantages. However, there are limited data on the opinions of the general male population on these topics. We surveyed an online cohort of 906 adult men regarding their knowledge, opinions, and attitudes about prostate cancer and PSA screening, revealing some surprising perspectives: most adult men thought it was worth screening 10,000 patients with blood tests to reduce the chance of 1 man dying of prostate cancer. A number of prevalent misconceptions were also uncovered, supporting the role of clinicians in informing their patients and engaging in prostate cancer screening discussions. View this paper
