Cover Story: Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) is the primary therapeutic approach for disorders of the pancreatobiliary tree. It carries the highest risk of complications and mortality, with post-ERCP pancreatitis (PEP) being the most frequent complication. PEP can be mitigated through a combination of pharmacological and intraprocedural measures, prompt diagnosis and early management. This review covers the definition, epidemiology and risk factors for PEP, with a focus on the latest evidence-based medical and endoscopic strategies to prevent and manage PEP. View this paper
