Cover Story: Colorectal cancer is the leading cause of cancer-related deaths worldwide. Several naturally occurring, botanical-driven compounds have been scientifically interrogated because of their potential as multi-targeted and safer therapeutic options vis-a-vis conventional cancer chemotherapy. Recently, ferroptosis has been considered an endogenous anti-cancer mechanism, which is actively being studied to develop novel therapeutic targets in cancer. In the current study, we report that a combination of Curcumin and Andrographis exhibited a superior ferroptosis-inducing effect via dual suppression of glutathione peroxidase 4 (GPX-4) and ferroptosis suppressor protein-1 (FSP-1), which has significant potential implication for its use as an adjunctive treatment in patients with colorectal cancer. View this paper
