Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Eating disorders are complex psychiatric and somatic conditions associated with substantial nutritional, metabolic, endocrine, gastrointestinal, cardiovascular, and skeletal complications. Although disturbances in energy intake and body weight are central features of many eating disorders, growing evidence indicates that qualitative aspects of nutrition, including macro- and micronutrient status, vitamin deficiencies, mineral imbalances, altered body composition, and metabolic adaptations, may play an important role in disease progression, clinical complications, treatment response, and long-term recovery.
This Special Issue aims to provide a comprehensive overview of macro- and micronutrient disturbances across the spectrum of eating disorders, including anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, binge-eating disorder, avoidant/restrictive food intake disorder, atypical anorexia nervosa, and other specified feeding or eating disorders. Particular attention will be given to the assessment of nutritional status, biochemical markers of deficiency or excess, vitamin and mineral abnormalities, protein-energy malnutrition, lipid and carbohydrate metabolism, electrolyte disturbances, and the physiological consequences of prolonged dietary restriction, purging behaviors, binge eating, and weight restoration.
We welcome original research articles, systematic reviews, meta-analyses, narrative reviews, clinical studies, and translational research addressing the pathophysiological mechanisms, clinical implications, and management of nutritional disturbances in eating disorders. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to, the following: micronutrient and vitamin status; macronutrient intake and metabolism; nutritional biomarkers; refeeding syndrome; supplementation strategies; dietary interventions; body composition; bone health; gut–brain interactions; inflammatory and oxidative stress markers; endocrine and metabolic alterations; and the role of nutrition in relapse prevention and recovery.
By integrating mechanistic, clinical, and therapeutic perspectives, this Special Issue seeks to advance our understanding of how macro- and micronutrient disturbances contribute to the medical complexity of eating disorders and how targeted nutritional assessment and management may improve patient outcomes. Contributions from multidisciplinary teams, including clinicians, dietitians, nutrition scientists, psychiatrists, endocrinologists, gastroenterologists, and researchers in metabolic medicine, are particularly encouraged.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Nutrients is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2900 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
