Dear Colleagues,
We are pleased to invite you to contribute to this Special Issue of Nutrients, entitled ‘Novel Therapeutic Approaches and Nutritional Strategies for Celiac Disease and Gluten-Related Disorders.’
Celiac disease (CeD) and gluten-related disorders (GRD) are a growing global health concern, with increasing prevalence and significant clinical, nutritional, and psychosocial implications. Although the gluten-free diet (GFD) is the only available treatment, it is often insufficient to fully control symptoms or to ensure optimal nutritional status and quality of life (QoL). Moreover, strict dietary adherence is challenging, and inadvertent gluten exposure is common. In recent years, advances in immunology, gastroenterology, food science, and nutrition have led to the development of innovative therapeutic approaches and novel nutritional strategies to complement or, in selected cases, overcome the limitations of the GFD. This rapidly evolving field highlights the need for an integrated, multidisciplinary perspective to improve patient outcomes and to better understand the pathophysiology and management of these disorders.
This Special Issue aims to provide a comprehensive and up-to-date overview of emerging therapeutic options and nutritional strategies for CeD and GRD, focusing on innovative dietary interventions, novel pharmacological and non-pharmacological therapies, and their nutritional implications. The goal is to promote scientific discussion, stimulate future research, and support evidence-based nutritional and therapeutic approaches that may improve CeD management and patient QoL.
In this Special Issue, original research articles and reviews are welcome. Research areas may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Novel pharmacological and non-pharmacological therapies for CeD and GRD.
- Innovative nutritional strategies and dietary interventions beyond the traditional GFD.
- Gluten detoxification, enzymatic therapies, and food processing technologies in GRD.
- Nutritional deficiencies, metabolic alterations, and personalized nutrition in CeD and GRD.
- Role of the gut microbiota and probiotics/prebiotics in CeD and GRD.
- QoL, adherence to dietary treatments, monitoring of therapeutic and nutritional interventions, and patient-centered outcomes in CeD and GRD.
Interdisciplinary or multi-center studies are particularly encouraged for submission.
