The Impact of Prolonged Fasting or Caloric Restriction and Physical Exercise on Physical Performance, Body Composition, and Functional Changes
This special issue belongs to the section "Sports Nutrition".
Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
The interplay between fasting or caloric restriction and physical exercise represents a key area of research in sports science, exercise physiology, and health prevention and therapy. Prolonged fasting or caloric restriction combined with various forms of physical exercise can significantly modulate the body's physiological responses, influencing metabolic pathways, energy utilization, and overall adaptive changes—particularly within the cardiovascular system.
This Special Issue of the journal Nutrients aims to demonstrate the multifaceted impact of prolonged fasting or caloric restriction combined with various forms of physical exercise on physical performance, body mass and composition, and general functional changes, with a particular focus on the cardiovascular system. We invite the submission of original research articles, comprehensive reviews, and clinical studies concerning physiological adaptations—specifically regarding physical performance, body mass and composition, and metabolic and functional changes—in response to prolonged fasting or caloric restriction combined with physical exercise. By compiling the latest research, this issue will provide valuable insights into optimizing physical performance, regulating body mass and composition, and developing preventive and therapeutic strategies for health, with a special emphasis on metabolic changes and cardiovascular function.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers).
