Dear Colleagues,
Artificial intelligence (AI) is rapidly transforming healthcare and biomedical research, providing new opportunities for precision assessment, clinical decision-making, personalized interventions, and the analysis of complex health data. Clinical nutrition, obesity, and chronic disease are particularly suitable fields for the implementation of these emerging technologies because of the large amount and heterogeneity of clinical, dietary, biochemical, imaging, functional, and lifestyle information involved in their assessment and management.
This Special Issue of Nutrients, entitled “Artificial Intelligence in Clinical Nutrition, Obesity, and Chronic Disease: From Precision Assessment to Personalized Care”, aims to provide an updated overview of the potential applications of AI across clinical nutrition and obesity-related disorders. Particular attention will be given to approaches capable of improving nutritional assessment, identifying novel phenotypes, predicting clinical outcomes, and supporting personalized nutritional and therapeutic strategies.
AI-based methodologies, including machine learning, deep learning, generative AI, explainable AI, natural language processing, and computer vision, are increasingly being applied to large clinical databases, medical images, body-composition assessment, dietary information, metabolomics and other omics technologies, and patient-generated health data. These tools may provide new diagnostic and prognostic biomarkers and facilitate the development of innovative models for precision nutrition and individualized patient care.
This Special Issue also welcomes research exploring AI-assisted analysis of ultrasound, computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging, radiomics, and other imaging modalities used for nutritional and body-composition assessment. The application of AI to sarcopenia, malnutrition, obesity, metabolic disorders, and obesity-related chronic diseases represents another important area of interest.
In addition, emerging technologies such as generative AI, virtual assistants, conversational agents, and digital educational platforms may offer new opportunities for patient education, professional training, clinical research, and communication between patients and healthcare professionals. The appropriate validation, interpretability, reproducibility, ethical implementation, and clinical translation of these technologies are also important topics for this Special Issue.
We therefore invite researchers and healthcare professionals to submit original research articles, systematic reviews, meta-analyses, narrative reviews, methodological studies, and innovative clinical applications addressing the use of artificial intelligence in clinical nutrition, obesity, and chronic disease.
Through this Special Issue, we aim to bring together multidisciplinary evidence on how AI can contribute to more precise nutritional assessment, better prediction of clinical outcomes, improved personalization of nutritional interventions, and ultimately better patient care.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process.
