Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Sports performance can be influenced by combination of different factors. On one hand, nutritional supplements are one of the most discussed topics in sports nutrition, sparking interest in athletes and practitioners. On the other hand, water has also been widely regarded as playing a relevant role in athletes, affecting both their health but also their performance and success. Moreover, specific challenges and current situations such as exercise in heat may exacerbate the risk of hypohydration among athletes. In this sense, it is recommended to avoid a state of reduced body water (i.e., hypohydration) to protect athletes, namely through water intake.
These topics have been studied independently, but optimal nutritional interventions often combine these strategies. While hydration status can modify the efficacy and physiological response to nutritional supplements, supplements themselves can also impact hydration status through water and electrolyte balance. Thus, it becomes crucial to link these topics and understand how they interact and affect overall performance. This Special Issue will explore how nutritional supplements and fluid intake can interact and impact hydration status of athletes, and thus impact sports performance, aiming to highlight different components of sports performance and athletic populations.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Nutrients is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2900 CHF (Swiss Francs).
