Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

We are pleased to announce this Special Issue of Nutrients, titled “Effects of Functional Foods and Nutriceuticals on Chronic Diseases.” This Special Issue aims to collect original research articles or reviews that investigate the role of functional foods and nutraceuticals in the prevention, management, and progression of chronic diseases across the lifespan.

Key topics include the effects of bioactive compounds, dietary supplements, and functional ingredients on metabolic health, inflammation, oxidative stress, gut microbiota, and cellular signaling pathways; the role of functional foods and nutriceuticals in obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, colitis, neurodegeneration, and other chronic conditions; and the mechanisms by which these dietary interventions influence disease development and progression. We welcome studies employing innovative approaches, from molecular and cellular investigations to preclinical models, clinical trials, and epidemiological research.

By compiling cutting-edge research, this Special Issue seeks to foster interdisciplinary collaboration among nutrition scientists, clinicians, food technologists, and public health researchers. We especially encourage contributions that provide novel mechanistic insights, evaluate efficacy and safety, or translate findings into practical dietary strategies. Through this collection, we aim to advance our understanding of how functional foods and nutriceuticals can mitigate chronic disease risk and improve long-term health outcomes.

We look forward to receiving your submissions and to highlighting pioneering research that drives the science of functional nutrition forward.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Nutrients is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2900 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
