Innovation in Plant Bioactives for Food Nutrition and Health
This special issue belongs to the section "Plant Foods".
Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Advances in food chemistry, biotechnology, metabolomics and clinical nutrition are rapidly expanding our understanding of how polyphenols, saponins, flavonoids, carotenoids, peptides and other plant bioactives interact with human physiology to promote health, enhance nutrition and support the development of innovative functional food products and nutraceuticals. Chronic non-communicable diseases continue to rise globally, demanding evidence-based nutritional strategies that go beyond conventional approaches. In this context, plant-derived bioactive compounds have emerged as critical drivers of innovation at the intersection of food science, nutrition and health with significant industrial relevance as key contributors to disease prevention and health promotion.
The growing global interest in evidence-based dietary strategies presents an extraordinary opportunity for the scientific community to consolidate knowledge, accelerate discovery and translate research into real-world impact. From sustainable valorization of agro-industrial by-products to novel delivery systems and omics-driven mechanistic insights, the field is generating compelling science with tangible applications across the food, health and wellness industries. We invite original research and comprehensive reviews from advanced extraction and characterization to bioavailability, food matrix interactions, functional ingredient development and clinical validation. Our goal is to build a rigorous, multidisciplinary reference that serves both the scientific community and the food and health industries, driving meaningful impact on human well-being.
We look forward to your contributions.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Foods is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2900 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
