Recent Trends in Development and Application of Edible Films and Coatings for Food Packaging
This special issue belongs to the section "Food Packaging and Preservation".
Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Edible films and coatings have rapidly advanced as promising sustainable alternatives to traditional synthetic food packaging, addressing pressing demands for plastic waste reduction, food preservetion and safety. Recent progress in biopolymer modification, functional additive incorporation, and novel processing technologies has unlocked broader application potential for edible packaging across diverse food sectors.
This special issue aims to showcase state-of-the-art research and systematic overviews in this field. It welcomes cutting-edge contributions covering novel material formulation, active and barrier property optimization, advanced fabrication methods, applications in food preservation, safety assessment, and industrial scale-up challenges.
We sincerely invite researchers worldwide to submit original research articles and comprehensive reviewsto share innovative findings and promote the practical development of edible food packaging technologies.
