Neurocognitive Interventions for Cognitive Disorders: From Mechanisms to Treatment
This special issue belongs to the section "Cognitive, Social and Affective Neuroscience".
Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Cognitive disorders are a significant and growing global health concern, impacting millions of people of all ages and greatly affecting their quality of life, independence, and access to healthcare. Advances in neuroscience, neuroimaging, and cognitive science have improved our understanding of the neural mechanisms underlying cognitive dysfunction in conditions such as Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, traumatic brain injury, stroke, and other neuropsychological and neurodevelopmental disorders. These advances have also fostered the development of innovative neurocognitive interventions aimed at enhancing cognitive functioning, slowing cognitive decline, and promoting brain plasticity.
This Special Issue explores the translational pathway from neurobiological mechanisms to therapeutic interventions, highlighting emerging strategies designed to target cognitive processes and their underlying neural systems. We welcome contributions that investigate the efficacy, and clinical implementation of these interventions, including cognitive training and habilitation, neuromodulation techniques, digital therapeutics, neurofeedback, neurohabilitation, and neurorrehabilitation, as well as other innovative therapeutic approaches.
By bringing together research from neuroscience, neuropsychology, neurology, and rehabilitation sciences, this Special Issue will provide a comprehensive overview of current advances and future directions in neurocognitive interventions. The ultimate goal is to bridge the gap between basic research and clinical practice to foster the development of effective, evidence-based strategies for preventing, mitigating, or restoring cognitive function in diverse clinical populations.
We invite authors worldwide to submit works involving basic, ethical, and clinical research.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the Special Issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Brain Sciences is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2400 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
