Cover Story: This work proposes a dynamic pricing scheme for charging electric vehicles (EVs). As charging EVs is becoming a standard commercial service, charging station operators are adopting new ways for optimizing their operations. We use the Markov decision process (MDP)-based model of revenue- or utilization-maximizing dynamic pricing problem faced by charging station operators. We solve this problem using the Monte Carlo Tree Search algorithm and evaluate it in simulation using problem instances based on a real-world dataset of EV charging sessions. We show that our approach provides near-optimal pricing decisions in milliseconds for large-scale problems, significantly increasing revenue or utilization over the flat-rate baseline under a range of parameters.
