Cover Story: Large language models (LLMs) help analyze transportation discussions on social media. This study evaluates GPT-5.5 and DeepSeek-V4.1-Flash on bilingual Reddit discussions from Quebec City using few-shot learning. The models extract transportation modes, sentiment, attitudes, intentions, and reported behaviors. Attitudes appeared more often than intentions or reported behaviors. Public transportation was mentioned most frequently, with more positive than negative statements. GPT-5.5 performed better at identifying transportation modes. However, both models struggled to link modes with sentiment and statement types. While LLMs identify key information in complex discussions, extracting these relationships remains challenging. Fine-tuning with transportation-related social media text may enhance relation extraction in future research. View this paper
