Cover Story: Eudialyte deposits could provide a low-cost, low-impact source of rare earth elements (REE) and other critical metals. We investigated the late-magmatic alteration of eudialyte in the Ilímaussaq Complex, Greenland, which transformed magmatic eudialyte into a variety of pseudomorphic mineral assemblages. We demonstrate that eudialyte alteration is associated with a loss of 15%–30% REE, Nb, and Zr from the original crystal volume. While we infer that these elements are retained within the rock, the results indicate that they were readily mobilised in the hydrothermal environment. View this paper
