Cover Story: Modern Artificial-Intelligence-based DDoS detection mechanisms have become increasingly popular and continue to show remarkable performance in detecting attacks, but due to the black-box nature of these systems, they are not widely deployed in operational environments. The proposed research distinguishes between attack and benign traffic flows using an advanced anomaly detection method. Moreover, it chooses the most influential features for each anomalous instance with influence weight using Explainable Artificial Intelligence (XAI). After that, we created a list of the most informative DDoS attack detection features and customized the threshold for each feature value to explain detected anomalies. View this paper
