Cover Story: Synchronous machines are widely used as generators and motors in the industrial areas of power engineering. The main reason for this is that they can work at a constant speed regardless of the load. They can be used to stabilize power systems by providing reactive power, which helps to maintain the system voltage and frequency by utilizing an excitation current parameter. In the conducted research, various artificial intelligence algorithms were applied to obtain a model that accurately estimates the values of the excitation current of the synchronous machine. The obtained results not only show that the value of the excitation current can be estimated using artificial intelligence, but is also more precise compared to conventional methods in the field of electric motor drives.
