Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Teaching and education include complex tasks for both teachers and learners. Understanding such tasks is important to identify teaching flaws but also misinterpretation issues from the learners’ perspective. However, without an advanced analysis of this behavioral and cognitive data it is quite challenging to find any options to improve the teaching–learning scenarios.
In this Special Issue we focus on eye tracking technology with the goal to investigate typical eye movement behavior from both perspectives—teaching/education and learning. To improve the rapidly evolving educational landscape we focus on eye tracking in its dual role as both an active input method in interactive learning environments and a passive sensor for understanding cognitive processes during teaching and education.
We expect to research eye tracking as a sensor that supports analytical insights into cognitive, emotional, and attentional states of the teachers and learners. Understanding these issues helps to improve teaching styles as well as teaching materials and, hence, communication between teachers and learners.
New challenges in this emerging and future research discipline come in the form of technical feasibility, methodological clarity, and ethical responsibility. Moreover, various teaching styles in different learning contexts are imaginable including real-world classrooms, online/remote teaching, or hybrid settings, ranging from young children in primary school to adults at universities.
We invite researchers, practitioners, and enthusiasts from fields such as eye tracking, human–computer interaction, psychology, and education to submit original research on this topic.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. Journal of Eye Movement Research is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
