Cover Story: Webcam-based eye tracking transforms standard computers into practical laboratories, making behavioral research more accessible. However, the accuracy of gaze data is highly dependent on the parameters of the experimental setup. This study introduces a controlled framework to benchmark WebGazer in terms of spatial and angular accuracy. The findings indicate that technical configurations have primary influence on tracking performance, with the density of the calibration grid and the duration of target presentation acting as the most critical factors. Additionally, visual design choices such as target color and size have a minimal impact. Ultimately, this work provides researchers with a methodological guide to help them achieve robust and cost-effective gaze tracking in realistic settings. View this paper
