HVDC Transmission Systems: Equipment, Topologies, Control and Applications
This special issue belongs to the section "Power Electronics".
Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
With the rapid growth of renewable energy integration and long-distance power transmission, high-voltage direct current (HVDC) technology has emerged as a key enabler for modern power systems. This Special Issue on “HVDC Transmission Systems: Equipment, Topologies, Control and Applications” aims to present the latest advancements and address emerging challenges in the field. The Special Issue focuses on the development of novel HVDC transmission systems, including those applied to offshore wind power integration, as well as the evolution of HVDC transmission equipment. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to, innovative converter topologies, advanced control strategies, protection schemes, and practical applications in major HVDC transmission projects. This issue seeks to bring together cutting-edge research findings, industry dynamics, and technology trends, facilitating in-depth discussions on frontier topics such as next-generation HVDC systems, high-power DC transformers, DC circuit breakers, and system-level coordination control. By promoting cross-disciplinary exchange between academia and industry, this Special Issue aims to contribute to the design, operation, and scalability of future HVDC transmission systems, supporting the global transition toward sustainable and resilient power grids. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Offshore wind power VSC-HVDC transmission systems;
- Multi-terminal VSC-HVDC transmission projects;
- HCC-HVDC topology and equipment;
- C-LCC HVDC technology;
- Frontier technologies of DC transmission;
- HVDC converter valves;
- DC circuit breakers;
- Solid-State Transformer (SST)/ DC/DC power electronic transformers;
- Power electronics-dominated new power systems;
- High-voltage and insulation technology;
- New energy storage technologies;
- Direct green power connection technology;
- MVDC transmission and equipment.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the Special Issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Electronics is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2400 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
