Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
We are pleased to invite you to contribute to ‘Recent Advances in Hardware Security for Embedded Systems and the Internet of Things’, a Special Issue of Electronics (ISSN 2079-9292) belonging to the section "Computer Science & Engineering". Electronics is an international peer-reviewed open access journal from MDPI, being indexed in the Web of Science SCIE database and having a JIF Quartile of Q2 and an AIS Quartile of Q3.
The primary focus of this Special Issue is on embedded systems and their applicability to current popular domains such as the Internet of Things and Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs). The newly emerged concept known as the Internet of Things can be seen as an enhancement or an upgrade of the already existing WSN platforms. One important area of applicability for WSNs is represented by real-time applications. In such applications, the system should not only provide accurate results, but must also function within strictly defined time constraints. The real-time capabilities of WSNs, later applied to IoT networks, have been of great interest to both researchers and industry; thus, these are crucial in time-critical applications. Real-time aspects have been studied on many levels of IoT networks and WSNs, such as operating systems, sensing, or control.
While IoT networks tend to implement critical applications, security becomes a key factor. While Cloud and Fog Layers of the IoT have received significant attention from researchers in terms of security, the Edge Layer still poses important security concerns. Edge communication and sensing is being implemented using embedded systems where both hardware and software security still poses important challenges.
We are pleased to invite you to submit original research papers to this Special Issue regarding security in embedded systems tailored for Wireless Sensor Networks and the Internet of Things.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Electronics is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2400 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
