Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Electric motor systems are fundamental enabling technologies for electrified transportation, industrial automation, robotics, aerospace systems, renewable energy conversion, and intelligent manufacturing. Driven by the increasing demand for high efficiency, high power density, high reliability, and wide-speed-range operation, power electronics and electric drives are undergoing rapid development in converter topologies, machine structures, control strategies, fault diagnosis, and system-level optimization. Meanwhile, the closer integration of power converters, electric machines, sensors, and digital controllers introduces new challenges related to electromagnetic coupling, thermal stress, fault propagation, stability, and reliability under complex operating conditions.
This Special Issue aims to introduce the latest breakthroughs in the theoretical research, technological innovation, and practical application of power electronics, electric drives, fault diagnosis, and control of electric motor systems. It provides a forum for researchers and engineers to present new methods, models, designs, control algorithms, diagnostic techniques, and experimental validations for next-generation motor drive systems.
Topics of interest include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Power electronic converters for electric motor drives;
- Wide-bandgap semiconductor-based drive systems;
- Electric machine design and optimization;
- Permanent magnet machines and rare-earth-free machines;
- Sensorless control and position estimation;
- Field-oriented control, direct torque control, and model predictive control;
- Intelligent, adaptive, and robust control methods;
- Fault diagnosis and condition monitoring of motor systems;
- Fault-tolerant converter and motor drive operation;
- Reliability assessment, lifetime prediction, and thermal management;
- Stability analysis of power electronic converters and motor drives;
- Digital twins, data-driven modeling, and AI-assisted diagnosis;
Although there is extensive literature on individual aspects of power electronics, machine design, motor control, and fault diagnosis, many studies still treat these topics separately. This Special Issue seeks to supplement the existing literature by emphasizing integrated perspectives across converters, machines, control, diagnostics, and reliability. Contributions that combine theoretical analysis, simulation, prototype development, and experimental validation are particularly welcome. Review articles that summarize emerging trends and identify future research challenges are also encouraged.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Electronics is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2400 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
