Cover Story: Treating taste and saliva secretory disorders associated with COVID-19 has become a critical issue since the worldwide spread of SARS-CoV-2 infection. Different treatment options are available on the basis of multiple modes of action on cellular entry and intracellular replication of cytopathic SARS-CoV-2; inflammation, zinc deficiency, dysautonomia, and neuropathy induced by SARS-CoV-2 infection; and gustatory and saliva secretory functions impaired by SARS-CoV-2. They include the use of repurposing tetracyclines, antiviral drugs, corticosteroids, zinc supplementation, photobiomodulation, stellate ganglion block, phytochemicals, acupuncture, etc., which are effectively applicable to COVID-19-associated ageusia, dysgeusia, or hypogeusia, and xerostomia, dry mouth, or hyposalivation. View this paper
