Cover Story: In this paper, Fujita and co-workers report on a new system for transfer hydrogenation of various ketones and aldehydes using glucose as a hydrogen donor catalyzed by an iridium complex. In this catalytic system, transfer hydrogenation reaction proceeds based on the cooperativity of iridium and a functional ligand. It should be noted that glucose is inexpensive, easily obtained from natural renewable resources, and safe to handle. Furthermore, environmentally benign water can be used as a solvent in the present catalytic system. View this paper.
