Cover Story: Curcumin and piperine are plant compounds known for their health-promoting properties, but their use in the prevention and treatment of various diseases is limited by their poor solubility. To overcome this drawback, this work aimed to develop amorphous dispersions of a polymer–phospholipid of curcumin and piperine to improve the bioaccessibility of these compounds. Hot-melt extrusion technology was employed to fabricate the systems. Solid-state characterization was performed. The increased solubility and permeability in vitro were reported. Obtaining amorphous polymer–phospholipid dispersions appears to be a promising solubility-enabling formulation that can be applied to enhance the bioavailability of weakly soluble active pharmaceutical substances.View this paper
