Dear Colleagues,
Plant Nutrient Management and Soil Fertility are indispensable pillars underpinning agricultural productivity, ecosystem function, and global food security. In an era marked by climate change, widespread soil degradation, and the pressing need for sustainable intensification, deciphering the intricate interactions between plants and their soil environment has never been more urgent. This Special Issue seeks to assemble cutting-edge research on the fundamental mechanisms, innovative management practices, and technological advances shaping nutrient acquisition, soil health, and fertilizer efficiency. We invite contributions that explore next-generation fertilization strategies, the pivotal roles of soil organic matter and microbial communities in nutrient cycling, plant physiological responses to abiotic stress, and the development of novel biofertilizers or soil amendments. Multidisciplinary approaches—integrating omics technologies, precision agriculture tools, and long-term field trials—are particularly encouraged. By bridging fundamental insights with applied solutions, this Special Issue aims to generate actionable knowledge to enhance crop productivity while safeguarding finite soil resources. We aim to curate a compelling collection of studies that will inform researchers, agronomists, and policymakers navigating the transition toward more resilient and environmentally sound agricultural systems.

Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. Plants is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
