Dear Colleagues,
Woody economic plants, including but not limited to fruit trees, woody oil crops, and bamboo resources, provide valuable products with important nutritional, ecological, and economic significance. Key trait formation is a complex process regulated by carbon allocation, primary and secondary metabolism, hormone signaling, and environmental factors. Dynamic changes in metabolites, regulatory genes, and molecular networks determine a diverse range of important traits, including yield, quality, stress tolerance, developmental characteristics, and structural properties. Recent advances in multi-omics and biotechnology have provided new insights into the mechanisms controlling key trait formation and improvement in woody economic plants. Understanding the interactions between metabolic pathways, regulatory factors, and cultivation conditions will facilitate the development of superior varieties and sustainable production strategies.
In this Special Issue, we welcome the submission of original research articles, reviews, and perspectives focusing on the molecular mechanisms, regulatory networks, and biotechnological approaches underlying key trait formation and improvement in woody economic plants, including but not limited to the following:
- Genetic and molecular regulation of key traits, including yield, quality, stress tolerance, development, and structural characteristics;
- Hormonal signaling and environmental responses involved in growth, adaptation, and quality formation;
- Multi-omics and network approaches for dissecting regulatory mechanisms of important traits;
- Functional characterization of key genes, transcription factors, and signaling components related to trait improvement;
- Biotechnological innovations and sustainable cultivation strategies for improving woody economic plants.

Plants is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
