Development of Efficient Nanocatalysts and Their Application in Electrochemical Energy Conversion
This special issue belongs to the section "Energy and Catalysis".
Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
You are cordially invited to contribute to a forthcoming Special Issue of Nanomaterials focused on the "Development of Efficient Nanocatalysts and Their Application in Electrochemical Energy Conversion." This issue aims to highlight the latest breakthroughs and forward-looking perspectives in this critically important field.
The pursuit of advanced electrochemical energy conversion technologies, such as fuel cells and conversion-typed batteries, is central to a sustainable energy future. Historically, progress has been constrained by the limitations of traditional catalyst materials. The emergence of nanotechnology has fundamentally transformed this landscape, enabling the precise design of materials with tailored properties for superior catalytic performance. This Special Issue seeks to capture the current momentum and chart future research directions.
The aim and scope of this issue encompass the rational design, innovative synthesis, in-depth mechanistic understanding, and practical application of nanostructured catalysts. We welcome contributions related to reactions including ORR, OER, HER, and CO2RR, or batteries with conversion mechanism (like metal-sulfur batteries, Zn-I2 batteries), spanning from fundamental material science to device-level integration and durability assessment.
We are particularly interested in submissions addressing cutting-edge research themes. These include, but are not limited to, single-atom and dual-atom catalysts, high-performance non-precious metal and metal-free alternatives, defect and strain engineering, understanding dynamic catalyst evolution under operando conditions, and the development of multi-functional or tandem catalyst systems.
Regarding what kind of papers we are soliciting, we invite the submission of high-quality Original Research Articles (presenting novel, complete findings) and insightful Review Articles (offering critical overviews and perspectives). All submissions should demonstrate scientific novelty, rigor, and a clear significance to the field.
All manuscripts will undergo a rigorous peer-review process to ensure the publication of impactful and reliable science.
Submission Deadline: 10 July 10 2026
We believe your expertise and recent work would make a valuable contribution to this collection. We look forward to receiving your manuscript.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the Special Issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Nanomaterials is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2400 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
