Dear Colleagues,
Single-layer graphene was first unambiguously produced and identified by the group of Andre Geim and Konstantin Novoselov in 2004. Prior to this, Hanns-Peter Boehm and his co-workers investigated multiple-layer graphene (or few-layer graphite) in 1962.
Currently, many 2D analogues of graphene also exist with unique properties and niche applications. Specific 2D materials of interest include, but are not limited to:
- Graphene and graphene-derived materials (such as graphene oxides and graphene quantum dots);
- Silicene and germanene/silicane and germanane;
- Boron nitride;
- Transition/layered metal dichalcogenides, metal monochalcogenides, metal halides;
- Mxenes, xenes;
- Two-dimensional topological insulators;
- Complex oxides;
- Composite materials.
Contributions are solicited particularly on green or sustainable applications including, but not limited to:
- Energy storage (batteries);
- Transducers;
- Insulation;
- Coatings;
- Sensors;
- Desalination;
- Environmental catalytic remediation;
- Medicine/medical implants;
- Food packaging;
- Nanoantennas;
- Stealth capability/radio wave absorption;
- Ultra-strong lightweight materials;
- Radiation absorption;
- Touchscreens (intelligent electronics);
- High speed computing (nanodevices).

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. Nanomaterials is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
