Dear Colleagues,
Most of, if not all, the processes that involve fluid flow and have crucial societal applications, such as in energy transition, in the biomedical industry, or for sustainable food technology, require understanding and implementing phenomena at a small scale. Examples include water management in membrane separation processes, controlled drug delivery, 3D microfluidic bio-printing etc. The multi-phase nature of such flows offers further complexities and fascinating insights alike.
We are pleased to invite you to contribute to this Special Issue of Micromachines exploring micro-scale flows. Our aim for this Special Issue is to provide a platform for showcasing cutting-edge research on multi-phase fluid flow in micro-reactors, where precision control of fluid/droplets or fluid machining (e.g., microfluidic extrusion) are highlighted. The idea is to learn about systems which are not only lab-on-a-chip devices but go beyond in terms of targeted processing of fluids for applications in energy/bio-medical/food sectors.
Contributions can focus on the physical aspects (e.g., instabilities), chemical aspects (e.g., specific materials production/extrusion), nanotechnology (e.g., production of particles), or engineering (e.g., precision control). Contributions with a focus on other aspects of science that still fall within the scope of this Special Issue are also welcome.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. Micromachines is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
