Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Laser additive manufacturing is rapidly transforming the production and repair of high-performance metallic components in the aerospace, energy, transportation, and electronics industries. Recent advances in high-power lasers, visible-wavelength laser sources, multi-material processing, and intelligent manufacturing systems have significantly expanded the processability of highly reflective and difficult-to-manufacture metals. Nevertheless, challenges associated with unstable melt-pool dynamics, defect formation, microstructural heterogeneity, and inconsistent component performance continue to limit broader industrial implementation.

This Special Issue aims to present and disseminate recent advances in laser additive manufacturing, with particular emphasis on material–process interactions, process monitoring, and intelligent quality control. We welcome original research articles and reviews addressing the fundamental mechanisms, enabling technologies, and industrial applications of laser-based additive manufacturing, remanufacturing, cladding, and related processes.

Topics of interest for publication include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Laser powder bed fusion and directed energy deposition;
  • Laser manufacturing with visible-wavelength, blue and green;
  • Additive manufacturing of highly reflective metals;

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. Materials is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
