Dear Colleagues,
This Special Issue aims to showcase cutting-edge developments in silver nanoparticle science, from fundamental synthesis strategies to advanced characterization techniques and innovative applications in medicine, electronics, sensing, and environmental applications. Silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) have emerged as one of the most widely investigated nanomaterials due to their unique physicochemical properties and versatile applications across multiple scientific domains.
Recent advances include sustainable biosynthesis methods employing microorganisms and plant extracts, development of sophisticated characterization protocols combining spectroscopic and microscopic techniques, and expanded applications in antimicrobial systems, photovoltaics, catalysis, and biomedical devices.
We welcome original research articles, comprehensive reviews, and short communications addressing novel synthesis methodologies (chemical, physical, and biological), advanced characterization approaches, mechanistic studies, and emerging applications demonstrating significant scientific or technological impact. The main topics included in this Special Issue include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Silver nanoparticles in medicine and life sciences;
- Nanotoxicity and environmental fate assessments of silver nanoparticles;
- Surface plasmonic resonance: synthesis and nanosensor devices;
- All applications and characterization of functional silver nanoparticles.

Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. Materials is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
