Advanced Precision Manufacturing of Materials
This special issue belongs to the section "Manufacturing Processes and Systems".
Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
High-efficiency precision processing has become a key enabling technology for the fabrication of high-performance materials and critical components in aerospace, energy, transportation, electronics, biomedical engineering, and other advanced industries. With the rapid development of high-strength alloys, lightweight metals, composites, gradient materials, and multifunctional materials, increasingly stringent requirements are being imposed on dimensional accuracy, surface integrity, microstructural control, defect suppression, and service reliability. Conventional and emerging processing routes, including machining, additive manufacturing, casting, forging, and welding, are therefore being driven toward higher efficiency, higher precision, greater process stability, and closer integration with materials design and performance evaluation. At the same time, artificial intelligence, machine learning, intelligent sensing, and digital twin technologies are creating new opportunities for process modeling, in situ monitoring, quality prediction, adaptive control, and intelligent manufacturing.
This Special Issue aims to present and disseminate the latest advances in the high-efficiency precision processing of materials, with particular emphasis on the intrinsic relationships among processing methods, microstructure evolution, defect formation, material properties, and service performance. Contributions are welcome on fundamental studies, experimental investigations, numerical simulations, and industrial applications related to machining, additive manufacturing, casting, forging, welding, and hybrid manufacturing, as well as the integration of artificial intelligence and digital twins into process analysis, optimization, diagnosis, and control. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to: precision and ultraprecision machining; additive manufacturing of metallic and non-metallic materials; casting, forging, and welding metallurgy; surface integrity and residual stress; defect detection and suppression; microstructure evolution and property tailoring; multi-scale and multi-physics modeling; data-driven quality assessment; intelligent monitoring and control; and digital twin-enabled manufacturing systems.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Materials is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
