Achievements in Foundry Materials and Technologies (Second Edition)
This special issue belongs to the section "Manufacturing Processes and Systems".
Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Foundry engineering is one of the fundamental branches of industrial production. Foundry products are used across virtually all sectors of the modern economy, including machine and equipment components, load-bearing structures, and precision parts. Throughout its history, the foundry industry has continuously evolved through the introduction of new molding materials, casting alloys, manufacturing processes, foundry equipment, quality control systems, energy-efficient technologies, and environmental protection solutions.
Many of these innovations have not yet been adequately documented in the professional literature or have only been presented locally at conferences and technical meetings. Therefore, the aim of this Special Issue is to bring together recent achievements and advancements in a single forum and to establish a platform for discussion on emerging directions in foundry development among authors, reviewers, and readers.
This Second Special Issue is a direct continuation of the first edition (https://www.mdpi.com/journal/materials/special_issues/1DGJ4KI72H), in which more than twenty high-quality and impactful papers were published. Due to the strong interest in the first edition, we have decided to launch this second edition. We hope that this initiative will also be of significant interest to the research and industrial communities.
This Special Issue covers all major foundry technologies and alloy systems, including cast steel, cast iron, and non-ferrous alloys. In line with the scope of this Special Issue, contributions addressing modern solutions in casting technologies are particularly welcome. Topics may include, but are not limited to, optimization of foundry production, metal preparation methods, solidification and crystallization processes, electromagnetic stirring of foundry alloys, quality control techniques, 3D printing technologies, reverse engineering, and computer simulation of foundry processes.
Once again, we invite you to submit your original research articles or comprehensive review papers describing the current state of the art within the scope of this Special Issue, “Achievements in Foundry Materials and Technologies (Second Edition).”

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the Special Issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Materials is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
