Multifunctional Heterogeneous Catalytic Materials for Industrial, Environmental and Biomedical Breakthroughs
This special issue belongs to the section "Catalytic Materials".
Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
The transition toward sustainable industrial processes and advanced medical therapies calls for transformative advances in catalytic materials. Heterogeneous catalysts, with their versatile active sites and recoverability, lie at the heart of innovations ranging from cleaner chemical production to environmental remediation and next-generation biomedical applications. The development of robust, selective, and multifunctional catalytic systems is critical to addressing complex challenges across these diverse fields.
This Special Issue will showcase cutting-edge research on the design, synthesis, characterization, and application of novel heterogeneous catalysts. We welcome contributions focused on materials for use in the following fields:
- Petrochemical transformations and green synthesis;
- Wastewater treatment and contaminant degradation;
- Environmental cleanup and air purification;
- Catalytic nanomedicine;
- Particularly as adjunctive therapies for central nervous system (CNS) disorders.
Topics of interest include, but are not limited to, nanostructured catalysts, hybrid and composite catalytic systems, catalytic membranes, bio-inspired catalysts, and materials with dual catalytic and therapeutic functions. Studies that explore catalytic mechanisms, stability under realistic conditions, scalability, and biocompatibility, especially in biomedical contexts, are strongly encouraged.
Through this Special Issue, we will foster interdisciplinary collaboration and accelerate the development of intelligent catalytic materials that enhance efficiency, reduce environmental footprints, and open new pathways in sustainable chemistry and nanomedicine.
We look forward to receiving your submissions.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the Special Issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Materials is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
