Progress in Hemorrhage Control and Blood Transfusion in Trauma
This special issue belongs to the section "Medical Research".
Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Hemorrhage remains the leading cause of preventable death after trauma, particularly in prehospital and operational settings. Advances in damage control resuscitation, blood product therapy, and hemostatic interventions have significantly improved outcomes. Growing understanding of trauma-induced coagulopathy has driven a shift from crystalloid-based resuscitation toward blood-based and precision approaches.
Emerging technologies—including viscoelastic hemostatic assays, point-of-care diagnostics, and artificial intelligence (AI)—are transforming how bleeding and transfusion needs are assessed and managed. Despite these advances, important gaps remain in optimizing transfusion strategies, product selection, and implementation in austere environments.
We are pleased to invite you to contribute to this Special Issue, highlighting recent advances and future directions in trauma hemorrhage control and blood transfusion.
This Special Issue aims to provide an interdisciplinary perspective on innovations in hemorrhage control and transfusion strategies in trauma care. Topics include conventional and emerging approaches such as whole blood resuscitation, dried blood products, targeted coagulation therapies, novel hemostatic materials, and AI-guided decision-making. The Special Issue aligns with the journal’s scope by integrating clinical, translational, and technological research to improve outcomes in both civilian and military settings.
We invite researchers and clinicians to contribute original research articles, reviews, and perspectives to this Special Issue and look forward to receiving your contributions.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Life is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
