Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Despite significant advances in oncology, solid tumors continue to pose substantial unmet medical needs, with high mortality rates driven by late diagnosis, therapy resistance, metastasis, and limited treatment options in advanced stages. Pancreatic, lung, colorectal, and other aggressive solid malignancies still suffer from poor long-term survival, underscoring the urgent requirement for deeper molecular insights and more effective translational strategies.

This Special Issue is particularly timely as rapid progress in molecular profiling, tumor microenvironment research, and emerging technologies is creating unprecedented opportunities to translate basic discoveries into novel therapeutic approaches. By integrating cutting-edge mechanistic understanding with clinical applications, this issue aims to accelerate the development of precision oncology solutions that address these critical gaps and improve patient outcomes.

We invite original research articles, reviews, and perspectives that explore the continuum from basic science to clinical translation in solid tumors, with a particular emphasis on studies demonstrating clear therapeutic relevance or potential for clinical impact.

Topics of interest include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Molecular and genetic mechanisms underlying tumor initiation, progression, and metastasis with translational or therapeutic implications;
  • Tumor microenvironment and immune interactions relevant to therapeutic targeting;
  • Biomarker discovery and validation for diagnosis, prognosis, and therapy selection;
  • Advances in targeted therapies, immunotherapies, and combination strategies;
  • Mechanisms of drug resistance and approaches to overcome them;
  • Emerging technologies (e.g., single-cell omics, spatial biology, AI-driven approaches) applied to therapeutic development;
  • Preclinical models and their translational relevance to human disease;
  • Clinical trials and real-world evidence informing therapeutic innovation;
  • This Special Issue particularly encourages interdisciplinary studies that connect mechanistic insights with therapeutic applications and clinical progress, fostering advancements toward precision oncology.

We look forward to receiving your contributions.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. International Journal of Molecular Sciences is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. There is an Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal. For details about the APC please see here. Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
