Application of Large Language Models in Bioinformatics: Deep Exploration from Protein to Gene Networks

Dear Colleagues,

Large language models (LLMs) have significantly changed the landscape of recent advancements in natural language processing (NLP). These LLMs, usually trained on transformer architecture, have been able to understand context and have enabled us to achieve high performances across various tasks. Owing to this development, we have started to see the application of LLMs in bioinformatics, and this has the potential to make a huge impact in the field.

This Special Issue of the International Journal of Molecular Sciences, entitled “Application of Large Language Models in Bioinformatics: Deep Exploration from Protein to Gene Networks”, aims to focus on recent advances in the development of bioinformatics, specifically language models and the application of these to various bioinformatics tasks including but not limited to protein and nucleic acid engineering and design, strategies for modeling macromolecular assemblies, strategies for annotation of function, genome assembling, annotation, and integrated analysis. Additionally, contributions focused on related topics are welcome to be submitted to this Special Issue, including original research and reviews.

Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process.
