Molecular Advances of Gut–Brain Communications

Dear Colleagues,

In recent years, emerging evidence has highlighted the substantial role of the gut microbiota in the development of mental health disorders. In particular, investigations into the gut–brain axis (GBA)—the bidirectional communication pathways between the central nervous system and the gut—are increasingly capturing the attention of neuroscientists. These studies offer a gateway to improved molecular understanding.

However, to fully address the complexities of the GBA, the field requires substantially more omics data and functional measurements, alongside advanced methods capable of integrating multifactorial and unbalanced datasets. This Special Issue aims to foster the generation of novel molecular data and analytical approaches that enable novel hypotheses and/or more robust conclusions on existing hypotheses. We welcome original research articles and reviews that provide data-driven insights toward a more comprehensive understanding of the GBA and, ultimately, improved mechanistic insights into neurological and neuropsychiatric disorders.
