Applications of Artificial Intelligence in Industrial Electronics

This special issue belongs to the section “Industrial Electronics“.

Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

This issue of the publication, titled “Applications of Artificial intelligence in Industrial Electronics”,  seeks to reduce costs and increase the efficiency and quality of the production system. This topic represents a key intersection between modern algorithms and physical systems. This area focuses on integrating techniques such as machine learning (ML), deep learning (DL) and expert systems into the industrial environment to increase efficiency, autonomy and reliability.

AI is changing the way converters, inverters and electric drives are controlled. Instead of traditional PID controllers, neural networks are used for predictive control (Model Predictive Control—MPC). This allows systems to adapt to dynamic load changes in real time, minimize losses and extend the life of semiconductor components. One of the most important applications is condition monitoring. AI algorithms analyze sensor data (vibration, current spectrum, and temperature) and can identify anomalies before a fatal machine failure occurs. This radically reduces the cost of downtime in factories. The current trend is to move computing from the cloud directly to the “edge” of the network (Edge Computing). Industrial electronic devices are equipped with AI chips that allow data to be processed directly at the point of origin. This minimizes latency, which is critical for robotics and high-speed production lines. AI allows robots to perceive their surroundings through computer vision and deep learning. In industrial electronics, this includes not only motion control, but also intelligent trajectory planning and safe human–robot collaboration (cobots) without the need for physical barriers.

This Topic seeks high-quality research and development works and applications in practice, focusing on the following processes:

  • Robotics and automation.
  • Intelligent power electronics control.
  • Predictive maintenance and fault diagnosis.
  • Edge AI and the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT).
  • Automation and collaborative robotics.
  • Advanced industrial engineering.
  • Energy system optimization and Smart Grids.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Electronics is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2400 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
