Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Cloud computing has become the backbone of modern digital infrastructures, enabling scalable computing, storage, and networking resources for diverse applications. The rapid growth of intelligent applications, distributed edge devices, and data-intensive services has created an urgent need for advanced solutions that combine the strengths of cloud systems, intelligent processing, and semantic interoperability.

This Special Issue, “Cloud Computing Systems and Intelligent Applications: Advances in Networks and Semantics,” seeks to gather cutting-edge research that advances both the theoretical and applied dimensions of cloud computing. We welcome contributions addressing next-generation cloud and edge architectures, distributed resource management, networking and programmable data planes, large-scale data analytics, and system-level security and privacy. We are particularly interested in works that leverage semantic technologies and knowledge graphs to enable interoperability, explainability, and policy-aware data usage, as well as intelligent orchestration mechanisms that employ machine learning for optimization, monitoring, and adaptation of cloud resources.

The focus of this Special Issue is to explore how semantic models, intelligent orchestration, and advanced networking can transform cloud computing into a more reliable, sustainable, and context-aware environment for complex applications. The scope covers architectures, platforms, and tools for cloud–edge–IoT integration; data and metadata management; semantic interoperability; network programmability; observability; and lifecycle operations (DevOps/MLOps/AIOps). We encourage both academic research and industry-driven studies, particularly those demonstrating real-world deployment, experimental validation, and measurable trade-offs in terms of scalability, latency, relevance, and privacy.

The purpose of this Special Issue is to provide a unified venue where researchers and practitioners can exchange knowledge and experience, contributing to the design of intelligent, semantic-driven cloud ecosystems. It aims to enrich the literature with methodological, architectural, and practical insights for building cohesive, policy-aware, and scalable solutions that meet both current and future demands of cloud computing.

We look forward to your contributions.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Electronics is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2400 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
