Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
This Special Issue of Electronics welcomes original research articles and reviews that explore future innovations of cryptographic technology in the field of identity authentication and hardware security. With the development of emerging technologies such as quantum computing, edge computing, the Internet of Things, and artificial intelligence, hardware accelerators are widely used and becoming a key component of complex systems, and security of hardware accelerators are facing unprecedented challenges but also opportunities for transformation. Dedicated accelerator hardware for artificial intelligence and machine learning (AI/ML) algorithms are increasingly prevalent in data centers and endpoint devices. These accelerators handle valuable data and models, and face a growing threat landscape putting AI/ML assets at risk. Using fundamental cryptographic security techniques performed by a hardware root of trust can safeguard these assets from attack.
This Special Issue aims to highlight the latest research results and explore cutting-edge topics, including lightweight encryption, new identity authentication mechanisms and privacy-preserving hardware root of trust, providing innovative paths for safeguarding AI/ML hardware accelerators and identity authentication in the digital world. Studies are encouraged to address the following topics:
- Hardware security primitives.
- Hardware attacks aimed at accelerators or SoC.
- Architecture security for hardware accelerators.
- Fault injection and hardware obfuscation for accelerators or SoC.
- Privacy-enhancing architecture and cryptocurrency security.
- Applications of AI, machine learning, and deep learning in hardware attack and security enforcement.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Electronics is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2400 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
