Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

With the emergence of full-scale automation and intelligence-everywhere, an immense number of data sources are being integrated with advanced technologies framed by Industry 4.0 for a wide variety of applications. Synergistic Information Fusion (SIF) is the process of framing information from multiple sources irrespective of industry 4.0 technology paradigm-type to produce a sustainable, inclusive, and adaptive framework for an entity of interest. Such frameworks aim to deal with cross-domain issues originating from large-scale machine-to-machine (M2M) communications, Internet of Things (IoT), and Artificial Intelligence (AI) with an integration viewpoint. For example, AI-driven IoT-based (AIoT) healthcare is the ultimate future of traditional healthcare services and applications. As such, AIoT healthcare will be riding on the back of a SIF framework consisting of IoT, big data, medical informatics, AI, and 5G-like internet services. The implementation of such information fusion-oriented frameworks therefore requires sophisticated computational and algorithmic methods. The purpose of this Special Issue is to present contemporary issues, promising methodologies, and potential applications related to all aspects of SIF in Industry 4.0.

Both theoretical and practical papers dealing with computations, algorithms, system design, performance analysis, and experimental studies are welcome. Potential topics include but are not limited to the keywords listed below:

  • Information fusion with Sensorization
  • Information fusion for network security and privacy
  • Information fusion for medical applications
  • Multiomics data analysis, integration, and applications
  • Convergence and standardization issues in information fusion
  • Information fusion based decision support systems
  • Information fusion for multimedia data processing
  • Information fusion in smart city applications
  • Business models for information fusion
  • Industrial trends in information fusion-based systems and applications

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Electronics is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2400 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
