Durability Enhancement of Reinforced Concrete and Construction: Coatings and Technologies
This special issue belongs to the section "Corrosion, Wear and Erosion".
Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
We are pleased to invite you to submit your work to our Special Issue entitled "Durability Enhancement of Reinforced Concrete and Construction: Coatings and Technologies."
The need for more sustainable cities necessitates increased durability of constructions, as structural longevity is a central pillar of modern civil engineering and urban sustainability. In the face of increasingly aggressive environments and the need to reduce maintenance costs, Coatings invites researchers, academics, and industry professionals to submit original articles exploring scientific advances and technological solutions focused on building durability.
This Issue seeks to collate works that bridge rigorous theory and construction site practice, focusing on methods that ensure the resilience of reinforced concrete and the efficiency of coating systems.
Key Topics of Interest:
- Materials Science: Ultra-high-performance concrete (UHPC), use of nanomaterials, and chemical admixtures.
- Degradation Mechanisms: Advanced studies on carbonation, chloride attack, and structural pathologies.
- Coating Technologies: Painting systems, technical mortars, water-repellent solutions, smart coatings, and nanomaterials.
- Innovation and Sustainability: Self-healing concrete, circular economy in construction, and preventive monitoring methodologies.
- Case Studies: Structural recovery and performance analysis of new materials in full-scale applications.
Join this edition and contribute to the advancement of technical–scientific knowledge in civil engineering.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Coatings is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
